Most AC only air handlers of that size draw less than 10 amps in which case you would use a 15 amp breaker. This is only if there are no ancillary devices in the circuit such as condensate pumps, humidifiers, electronic air cleaners,electric heat, etc.
If this unit has electric heat, you will have more amp draw, usually 15 to 20 amps per elec. Check the blower motor label to see the amperage rating of it as well as any other electric consuming devices such as electric heat, transformers, lights, EAC's humidifiers,etc. Total these up and increase the breaker to the next size to allow for inrush amps locked rotor.

It is common for older motors to start to draw more as the bearings fail. I would not wait long or the rotor may start hitting the stator then it is time for a new motor most of the time.
When the current is high with no load, check for proper voltage. If voltage is correct at the feed, check all connections to the motor leads. Check all connections in disconnect, motor operator, distribution panel, etc. If there is a loose connection, you might show a proper voltage, but when it is under a load it will drop. After you are confident about voltage, check for bad bearings. Take a long screw driver, touch the bearing housing with the metal end while putting the grip end against your ear.

Also, while power is off, can you free spin the motor? What does it sound like? While power is off and motor is not turning, can you move the shaft up and down. If all of that checks normal, you might have a partial ground in the winding.
What kind of motor is it exactly? Does it have a centrifugal switch? If so, the switch might be bad, keeping the starting winding energized all the time. Doesn't really sound like an issue with the motor.

They make to much noise, use more electricity, generate more heat, and limit the speed taps available for tuning the airflow for the cooling and heating modes.
